Following our Snowdroppers interview was an early set from L.A four piece Carney who returned to Bluesfest for their second year in a row. Catching the performance from side of stage I was initially stunned by the vocal ability and showmanship of lead singer Reeve Carney.

Bluesfest Day Two Review

The day kicked off with an early set from Sydney 5 piece Chase the Sun that really didn’t do much for me. Leaving after 3 songs I headed over to the artist area for interviews with 4 members of Ozomatli and Glen from The Swell Season.

Following the interviews came one of the most anticipated acts of the festival – Matisyahu supported by Dub Trio.

Influenced and inspired by Jewish teachings, Matisyahu writes with a strong desire for his music reach out to people and make them think. His songs fuse elements of reggae, rock, hip-hop and dub. Think dance hall yet imagine a skinny white guy! The performance was a cultural mash up that I never expected to witness.

Weird Festival Foods

Festival food is unusual at the best of times but check out what we stumbled across while up at Bluesfest.

Not willing to fork out $13 for something that sounded pretty unpleasant we got a fee sample. It was OK. Imagine the texture of a chicken burrito with the flavor of chilli chocolate. Apparently its pretty popular in Mexican cooking and there are a heap of on the net for anyone who is game.

Some other food up at Byron we didn't even want to try....

Bluesfest Day One Review

Since touring to Australia as part of an arts, film and music festival called The Happening, three of the more recent additions to Jack Johnson's Brushfire label took to the Mojo Stage. 

Zee Avi came to fame via YouTube when she uploaded a video for friends to watch after they missed her performing live. The video become popular and a viral snowball effect followed. Avi’s song was noticed by Patrick Keeler of The Raconteurs, who passed the link on to his manager with the video eventually meeting the eyes of Emmet Malloy, Film Maker and co owner of Brushfire who signed her immediately.

Sydney to Byron Bay

My World Tour has officially kicked off for us and so far

has been an interesting adventure! The addition of Bluesfest

was a last minute surprise and we were excited to be heading

up to Byron (yep, it’s moved to a bigger and better venue).

Dan and I had no accommodation booked and a few other

details still sketchy. After arriving Wednesday afternoon in

Ballina we were handed the keys to a camper van! Better

than wicked camper but not as high rolling as a Winnebago.

With out power, water or a legitimate camping site our

first night was very interesting.

To avoid getting parking fines of between $150 and $300

we parked in what we thought was quiet residential area

only be woken up at some ridiculous hour by about 30

kids (and their parents!) assembling next to our camper

waiting for the Thursday morning school bus! Or dinning

table converted in to a double for Dan while I took the

upper bunk. Perfect size for a 6 year old... so I had to keep

reminding myself not to sit up. Found that of the hard way!
